Question & Answer
from the Home Brew Ameica Web Site

Sorry to hear that you are having difficulties in accessing our web site. I have included with some helpful hints and tips on using our site. Most problems can be put to rest by using the Microsoft Internet Explorer 3+ browser. You can get a downloaded FREE copy by clicking here. If you have any comments, suggestions, or still need more help please e-mail us.

Q: I'm having difficulties in viewing sites with frames. What can I do about it?

A: There are two reasons that your browser may encounter difficulties in loading or viewing our default browser page.

  1. Your browser is not compatible (not MSIE) with displaying frames. The site was designed for use with Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.+. Many other browsers are compatible but check to see if it is.
  2. Your browser may have difficulties with the Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) Document Type Definition (DTD) specified at the top of each page of code. In many advanced browsers you can specify which document types you can view. Also some browsers will only show HTML 3.+ coded sites. This is unfortunate because there are many new codes that enhance the viewers pleasure. Our site was intended to use the full feature HTML code of Microsoft's Internet Explorer (MSIE). This code is the most advanced web site code out. Not all browsers are as powerful as MSIE. If you are not using this browser it's recommended that you use the non-frames display option on the default page. Up-grading your browser will solve many browser problems. Many "die hard" Netscape users are afraid to use MSIE, thinking they will lose something, No! MSIE is as good as Netscape (10X) and this site is a good example. (3) Your browser is not recognizing the frame set in the proper manner. The code for the implementation of the frame will call up a total of three separate pages and display them. The browser will load this into the RAM of your computer and store it in your browser cache directory on your hard drive. Your browser must be configured correctly to load the pages to view in frames. The site has a non-frames display option on the default page.

Q: When I log on to your site a warning screen stops the loading of your site?

A: Your browser is configured with a parental lock out or limited viewer access. Many of today's browsers have a security system that prevents the unauthorized viewing of adult sites. The default of many of these security systems is all sites above 00001+ rating lock-out. Our site is rated by RIMA with a 00003, this is due to the primary theme of adult beverages (and Brewman has a potty-mouth). If your browser gives you a security alert warning on loading you may be prompted to enter your password. If this occurs check your broswer set-up.

Q: The print is very small on your site and I have difficulties in reading it, how do I fix this?

A: The code used on the site was intentionally set small so that the users may re-size the text to their liking. Both Navigator2+ and IE2+ have this option. I have set the font size to level 2 (about 12-14pt) for browsers without this option. Your default browser setting may need to be altered to take advantage of this option. Setting the font size option on IE4:

From the main browser view, click the "view" tag on the top of the tool bar. Click the "Internet option", and in the "General" section click the "Font" button. Check your browser setting listed as, "Font size". Click the arrow down to see the list of settings. Select and click on the "Medium" setting. Then click the "OK" button on the "Fonts" window only. This will set the default font to a medium size. Click the Advanced section.
Look down the options list and find the "Toolbar" heading. Make sure that the "Show font button" is turned on. Then click the "OK" button on the "Internet Options" window. You will then notice an icon in the shape of a letter "A". You can now adjust the font size of any web page by clicking it and resetting the font display size. This will also allow the large font option for the visually impaired to see our site.

Q: I get a Java error message on loading the default site page?

A: As we introduce new features on the site we may have misplaced the code in the wrong place or your browser is not interpreting it properly. No matter the error message, please let us know about it so we can fix it. We are in the process of implementing DHTML code into the site and you should use IE4 browser to see all of the new dynamic codes that many other web sites are implementing.

Q: When I log on to your site, it takes forever to load all the graphics?

A: The default page of this site may have 1-50 graphic to load 90% of them are very small (5KB-). Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator/Communicator store all visited sites HTML code and graphics in a temporary "cache" folder. The size or the amount of file space is set by you in your browser's set up. By leaving, the "cache" folder it allows the code and graphic to remain harmlessly on your computer's hard drive. On subsequent visits to our site, your browser will not need to down-load the graphic but simply display them from your "cache" folder. Check your browser set-up and increase the size to an appropriate amount.

Q: For some reason things seem to be slow on your site?

A: Our domain server is a state of the art UNIX system with triple redundant T3 and allows transfer up to 128K baud. There are four reasons for slow transfer rates.

  1. Your server (the one you dialed into) may have limited band-width (lots of users on-line) to transfer information your browser requested. Take a look at the modem icon on the tool bar (Windows95). If you do not see any light flickering on and off this may be the case.
  2. Check your modem setting to make sure that the speed settings are correct. It may be running at a slow speed setting.
  3. When you log on to your server the handshake protocols may reset your modem speed. Check this by twice clicking the modem icon while you are on line.
  4. Your server (the one you dialed into) or our domain server may have a difficulty communicating. This may be a temporary hardware problem, or a software problem that you have no control over. If the problem persists and you have checked the other three points, then check with your Internet Provider Service.

Q: I've noticed there are a lot of misspellings on your site. Don't you have a spell checker?

A: Watt miss peeled weirdoes? Aye donut fine Annie whiff du peel chukka! In all seriousness, please let us know if you find misspelled words, as I often program late at night after a few home brews or directly before sex. So I may be in a hurry. Gutter go, her commas ma whiff warring no fang...

I hope this information helps solve any problems you are having with our site. If not, please let us know as soon as possible. We may have a gremlin in the code somewhere and we need to get it out. We do recommend the use of Internet Explorer (IE4) when surfing the web. The site's code is validated by IE3+ and should work as intended with that browser.

Thank you,
